Biography

Dr. Dewan earned his Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), Japan in 2021 with a scholarship from the Japanese Government (MEXT: Monbukagakusho). His doctoral studies include the elucidation of the mechanistic progression of acute vascular inflammation by qualitative changes through the interaction between neutrophils and the endothelium induced by the complement protein C5a. He also focused on the induction of chronic inflammation by complement-stimulated neutrophil-induced monocyte migration in the context of atherosclerosis. Presently, he is engaged in research concerning the correlation between susceptible gene polymorphisms in cardiovascular diseases and cancer risks among the Bangladeshi populace. Additionally, he collaborates in several studies that examine various concurrent public health concerns.

Dr. Dewan graduated from Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) in 2011 with a major in Pharmacy, subsequently earning an M.Pharm in Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology from the same institution in 2013. Throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, his research primarily focused on conducting case-control studies on prehepatic jaundice, preeclampsia, and schizophrenia. These studies investigated the correlation between socio-economic conditions and levels of lipid peroxidation, enzymatic or non-enzymatic antioxidants, as well as alterations in trace element levels, exploring their implications in disease etiology. Additionally, Dr. Dewan contributed to various projects examining the pharmacological effects—such as antipyretic, analgesic, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and thrombolytic effects—of numerous medicinal plants indigenous to Bangladesh, both in vitro and in vivo.

After completing his undergraduate studies, he served as a Production Officer at ACI Limited for approximately two years, overseeing the manufacturing of cephalosporin drugs. Following the completion of his PhD, Dr. Dewan commenced his academic career as a Lecturer at Dhaka International University, subsequently joining the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy.

Dr. Dewan holds honorary memberships in prestigious organizations including the Japan Atherosclerosis Society, the Japan Cardiovascular Association, and the European Society of Cardiology. He serves on the editorial boards of distinguished journals such as Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) and the Journal of Food Biochemistry (Wiley). Additionally, he is recognized as a prominent reviewer for numerous esteemed national and international scientific journals. His research interests encompass vascular biology, inflammation, genetic polymorphism, pharmacology, and public health.
